New PSU Needed to Feed GPU

Hi,

I was on here last night and about to order an RX 6550 XT when I noticed that they require an 8 PIN PCI Graphics and my PSU doesn't seem have one (600W SEASONIC M12-600 Modular https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seas...ply-ca-006-ss.html?template=amp&op=2&c=146755), although I think it's capable of supporting one. Now I realise that by some calculations a 600W is pushing my luck with a modern graphics card however I was going to give it a go as this is a great PSU that has lasted since 2006 and is still working like a dream although the Core 2 Duo and every other part in this PC except the case has changed. A lot of the PSU recommendations seem quite conservative.

So do I need to buy a new PSU if I want to get a new GPU?

The tricky thing is that I don't need a new graphics card, I just fancy one and will probably need one soon as the venerable GTX 1060 is no longer the wonder child it once was. (I got my £229.99's worth there.) My idea of incremental upgrades over the next two years is looking more doubtful, and I am starting to wonder if I'd be better off either doing nothing or doing everything. I was going to wait until AM5 is more mainstream as things like motherboard prices seem insane to me at the moment although memory is reasonable.

Would 800W be about the level to do me for the foreseeable future for a middle of the road gaming/office PC? My days of OCing, phasechange cooling, etc. are all behind me and I will either be stock or auto-overclocked with stock being more likely.

Thanks.

I suppose 17 years of flawless service is pretty good going. Do you know if I can still get cables for this Seasonic modular PSU to give it a try or do you reckon I should stop being tight and just bite the bullet? It has been the best PSU that I've ever owned.

I'll have a look at the MSI A850G PCIE5. Part of me reckons once I start, I may as well just build a new PC.

I just ordered the MSI A850G PCIE5 and the 6650XT. It's very indulgent for an occasional gamer :) I hope the warehouse delays aren't long.
