to fit in my new Inspiron 530.

Can anyone recommend anything as I don't really know what I'm looking for.

It's so I can run my 8800GT in there which it wont do withthe current one because its only 300w and theres no correct connection

Well, as it happens - the father in law is in the market for a new pc so i might sell on the dell to him.

There's a lesson learnt. Cheap deal, false economy

On the other hand - what do you think is the best gpu you can get that will go in it that doesn't need an additional power input?

Dell use standard atx power supplies so you can install pretty much any PSU. Also the card should come with one of these

It may worth seeing if the stock PSU is good enough. There are people running it fine on the 305w psu. Dell's PSUs are very good.

If this is true then I may be better putting a new PSU in. I have an one in my old machine so i can check the connections i suppose.

The 8800GT did come with one of those but the PSU only has one PCIe power plug free and is only 305w anyway so most likely wouldn't run the 8800 anyway.

Ahhh, it looks like OCZ have just brought out a new 500w PSU (Silencer 500 Dell) that is Dell compatible. Can't see it is available anywhere other than the states at the moment though.

And now, having looked through the forums on the Dell website, it seems that Dell no longer do the propriotary connections and you shoul dbe able to use any PSU.

Ordered one ;p

Top notch!

New PSU from here fit in like a glove, now running with the 8800GT without a problem.

So for the record, there's no problem replacing PSU's in new Dells. The card was a bit of a sqeeze but all fine!!
