New PSU recommendations? For an old and new rig

Hey!

So I started a cry for help here https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/mobo-or-psu-go-boom.18896318/ - basically PC is shutting down under a little load (Final fantasy 14 and Nier aren't too hungry) but is fine idling and working on for hours.

Possibility could be the PSU dying right? This going through my mind I'd like to replace this first as it's probably the cheapest to do (bar replacing the CMOS battery..) but I would like it to work in my current rig (Asus Z97-K, i5 4960k @ 3.5GHz, Radeon RX480 8Gb, 16Gb memory) but also use it in case I have to do a full system upgrade which would be looking at high mid/top tier range.

The one I'm using right now is a Corsair CX750M.

One thing nagging at me though - I thought a PSU would have to deliver it's wattage under any load, so should randomly be shutting down regardless of what load the system is under? Or do they indeed do more work the higher the load also (thus fitting the current symptoms)?

Thanks for any input :)

I was always under the impression a PSU would just stop completely and utterly once it was its time to die.
But after stress testing the CPU it crashed, and also 3D graphics it also died.

Happy to get another PSU though but I feel I may end up haing to get 90% of a new system to solve this :/

Good to know PSUs can slowly die. Did the paperclip trick in the 24pin connector and she still be dead so I'm picking up a corsair RM750x tonight, got it for a ton from a vindaloo store.

Of course knowing my luck I used the only insulating paperclip and the psu is infact fine, but i hope my luck doesn't even get that bad
