about to buy sum new kit and with an 8800gts in that spec was wondering if my existing psu (Tagan TG480-U01 480W ) would be up to the job?

You will probably get away with it but personally I would buy a new one just to be on the safe side. The Corsair 520W is great is you're after a recomendation

That Tagan 480W has 28A 12V+ rail so should be ok for a GTS tbh, which requires a minimum 26A 400W PSU, I wouldn't get a new PSU just yet unless you are going to do some heavy ocing. Best thing is to use the psu calculator and you'll have a better idea:
