New PSU?

hey guys

Long time no post. Been running my C2D E6300 for about 6 Months now. Running it on a Asrock Dual VSTA Mobo (the one with PCI-E and AGPx8). Got a AGPx8 Nvidia 6800GS in there with 2GB of OCZPC2-6400 XTC Series RAM. Its okay for doign what I do atm.

But with the new games arriving (COD4 & Crisis) im in need of a bit of a makeover. But im confused as to what to upgrade. Of course I need new GFX Card and with this i'll need a new MoBo because the PCI-e slot aint 16x.

So i was thinking of getting the following:
Gigabyte GA_P35_DS4 - £111.61 (inc)
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB - £252.61

this would give me the performance I want yes? But there is a snag. I have a 420W Antec Generic PSU. The GFX states that it needs 500W to run and recommends a 600W PSU. The simple answer would be to buy a new one. But £400 is my budget. So what do I do?

Was thinking of getting a 320MB GFX card instead or maybe a cheaper motherboard. Or even a cheaper spec all together? What do you propose I do im stuck IMO.

Thanks for any help :D

Are you sure about those figures? I think the 8800gts needs 400w and the GTX 450w.

As you are on a budget maybe you should look at the 2900pro. £170 and similar performance to the GTS. Its only on limited offer atm. With the saving you could get a new PSU just to be on the safe side, as the 2900 series draws more power than the 8800.

As far as power supplies go, get the corsair hx520w, it'll be more than enough for a quad and a gtx, so should power yours fine.

i would opt for a cheaper motherboard, p35 ds3, abit ip35, something along those lines, unless you actually need all the extra features for any reason, this should leave you enough money for the gts 640. Do you game at high res? if not,t hen get the 320 gts instead.

I game on 1440x900 (19" Wide) but do run Dual monitors (20" Wide TV) when not gaming. I reading about the 2900 Pro and there is a bit of an argument going on between them both... I dont think ill be OC'ing so maybe the 2900 and the Corsair 520W is the way to go. Ill look into changing the mobo but would like to stay with SLi/Crossfire :)

Maybe even changing to the £30 cheaper Leadtek 640MB would be an Idea?

have have a quick look n post a spec see what you guys think :D

Edit: Just had a think, seems as if the ATi cards aint that bad. Was thinking if i got a crossfire mobo and then 2 HIS ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT ICEQ Turbo 512MB and the Corsair 520W that would be fine and svae on budget by around £50? or would i need the £620W to power the 2 cards?
