Selling most of my PC's guts to my wee brother when the next gen gfx cards come out, to kind of soften the financial blow of a new system! I'm not too knowledgeable on PSU's though, what brand/wattage would you say for the following:

intel E8400
P45 motherboard
one of the new ati cards (i know theres not much info out, so speculate away!)
3X hdd's (2 sATA, 1 IDE)
dvd-rw
2 120mm case fans
oh, and a floppy dirve ;)

Might be loosing the IDE drive, as the dvd is IDE as well, and the P45 boards only have 1 pATA port :(

Appreciate the help

if you want good quality silent psu with good cables silverstone strider

if you want a good quality psu with crap cables spending 10 mins to plug a molex in get a corsair hx series

anything over 600w will be enough

Bit harsh . . . . Flat cables are easier to run under a mobo / behind things. 10 minutes to plug a plug in . . . never had a problem with mine. At least its modular and the fan IS silent. The 520W corsair will do.
Corsairs that will do you:
Modular - £70.49
Non-modular - £64.61

i too would second the silverstone strider's i have the 750w modular version
never had an issue with it yet the fan is virtually silent
Also comes with velcro cable tidy's to help with cable management
however i dont seem to see them either on the site

Don't get me wrong, I have two of them and they are decent, reliable efficient PSUs but I've had dealt with easier modular PSUs which are better in terms of the cables. Some of the molex connectors don't line up correctly.

i am in a similar situation to the thread starter and did not really see it being useful to start a new thread. I was just wondering which brand could be seen as the easiest to RMA or get a replacement if the PSU fails? I have heard you have to ship your Corsair out to the US which is not exactly ideal. is the the case with the silverstone PSU's as well?

If so, are there any decent brands where you can send them for replacement within the UK?

Cheers and sorry if this looks like a hijack :p

Got the Corsair HX620 here and can highly recommend it, however, the first one I got sent had to be returned due to it being faulty, this one has no problems tho. :)

Modular design is great, no longer have loads of unused cables taking up space in the case. Not sure what people mean by the poor cables, mine are perfectly ok and they do the job intended, guess some people are never satisfied.
