New PSU

What are the specs of your new pc going to be?

If your using a single hi-end gpu then usually a 550w to 650w will be fine.

Look at Corsair, XFX, BeQuiet and Antec.

Hi there,

May I ask what spec system you will be going for with this new build, as PSU choice has to be strongly informed by what it will be used to power. For example, how much do you think you will be spending on the CPU and GPU and do you plan (either initially or in the future) to run two (or more) graphics cards in SLI/CF?

Also, may I ask what your budget is for the PSU itself?

Finally, do you have any special requirements of the PSU? ie. do you want one semi-modular or fully modular cables, semi passive or fully passive cooling.

I don't know what the modular and semi modular means xD.

Basically probably going to be running one 680 to begin with with possible SLI sometime down the line. Probably going to be running either a sandybridge i7 or ivybridge i7 depending on how the IB turns out.

The cables mentioned above would need to be connected anyway, so it it's a case of looking at the best price at the time, as Overclockers do weekly and daily specials.

This review shows that with GTX 680 SLI and a Sandy Bridge E test platform uses a maximum of just under 600W. With some extras (HDDs, SSDs, fans, dvd drive etc.) I think it is fair to say the maximum system power consumption would be ~650W. Therefore, to be safe I would recommend a good quality 750W PSU at the minimum.

Considering how much you will be spending on your system in total I would recommend this seasonic-made Corsair AX 750W unit for £130. This PSU is very efficient, has fully modular cables, runs passively when under low load and comes with a 7 year warranty. Here is an in-depth review of it.

The one I've got (XFX 750 XXX Edition) is very good. It's semi-modular but the only cable I'm not using that is hardwired is the 4+4 cable for the CPU. Reliable and a little cheaper than the one above. Corsair/XFX both make excellent PSU's though. Can't go wrong with one of theirs.
