Hi guys
I've been running thermaltake toughpower 1200 for about 6 years now and its been fine with every rig I have owned until now. When coming back from a long stay abroad I picked up a 7970Ghz edition card which has two 8-pin connectors. However, my PSU only has 6pins, so slapped on the 8pin adapters that came with the card and away we go and for a while now it has been fine. (msi 7970 Lightning BE)

Now i'm thinking i should probably replace the psu with something a little more modern that has 8pins on separate rails. Also this sucker at 20cm is long so i would like something which would give me a little more room in the bottom of my case.

I have been looking at the corsair AX and RM series. 850V upwards. Is there a big difference between the two types?
I may also upgrade from the 7970 to a R290XT or GTX780 some time in the future so i would want a PSU that could power OC'd versions of those no problem.

Any advice would be great here, i am guessing that adapters as a rule is a nono and 8pin can potentially pull more power?

System:
ASrock Z68 Extreame 4 gen 3
i7 2700k @4.8GHz
16gig Corsair Vengence 1.35v 1600MHz
MSI 7970 Lightning BE @ 1150MHz 1500MHz

Cheers for any advice and thanks for all the fish.

The AX models are built by Seasonic, i would also recommend the Antec 850 Gold too. Both built by Seasonic so solid choices.

Any benefits over the RM series? I picked these two because they are fully modular. Want to try and get rid of this rat nest behind my mobo.
