New pump - D5 advice.

Hi all.

So I'm after a new pump as the old one is on the way out and has gotten really noisy lately. General consensus is go for a D5, I know that, but the fact that it runs 1/2" tubing is putting me off. I currently use 3/8" tubing for my whole loop and have compression fittings for everything involved.

Is it possible to use 3/8" tubing on a D5 if I heat the tubing or will it just not fit (I use primoflex tubing which is pretty flexible)? If not what's my best option - would 1/2" tubing on either side of the pump and 3/8" in the rest of the loop be OK?

I also have a pump/res combo so will need a new res if I get a D5, thinking either an EK Multi res or mounting the D5 in a drive bay res (like this one). Do the drive bay res's increase noise much/at all? Can a multi-option res run bottom in, top out ok?

Any help would be great.
Thanks
G

Or just buy a pump top with g 1/4 threads also they will increase the pumps performance. Which ever is easier to route your loop.

You can buy the d5 without the 1/2" barbed top, google "Laing D5 Single Edition Pump" you can even buy it as a bundle with the ek x top :)

3/8 over the stock barbs will be fine (but will need some force)
Or as it's a cpu only loop, just get a EK-DCP 2.2 with the res top (EK-Reservoir Combo DCP 2.2)
Will save you loads (and is smaller) over a D5 and X-top/bay res

A res that works bottom in / top out is counter productive.
Think about where the 'bubble' will be?

The res should mavity feed the pump - res before pump is the only rule in loop order.
Therefore it must (almost) always be above the pump

My loop is not only CPU I'm afraid, I have a 6950 in there too. Another reason for choosing the D5 was noise, Ideally I'd like the pump to be as silent as possible and for noise: performance I've read over and over again that this is the pump to go for.

This is what I thought but figured I'd ask anyway.

With regard to the pump tops, do they add any noise/vibration as I guess with one on you can't use the standard D5 mounting bracket??

I just bought the XSPC tank res + top, because its cheap more than anything, though I've seen a review that tested some of the XSPC dual/single/tank top and the EK ones. Basically the tank res top came the best of the single pump tops, and has a res included for a similar price to other tops. Also came in as quantitatively quietest, can't remember where the review was.

Basically seemed to be the best top there is, noise/performance. Though, Martin labs said the quietest top he'd used was the koolance top I believe, maybe because it has a aluminium cover for the main pump housing.

The xspc top/res has a base on it so it seems it would be easy enough to use one of the pump mounting kits, bit of sticky absorbant material between that and the case somewhere.

I have a D5 Vario with EK X-Top Rev 2. The pump is quiet at the lowest and highest setting. Middle settings it is pretty noisy.

I have been running mine for the last 5 years which speaks volumes about the reliability.

Make sure you mount it on some sort of foam. I have mine packed in foam in the bottom bay of my 800D.
