Hi there,

just got myself a new system have installed everything with the new cooler and it seems like the idle temperature is around 35-38 at stock speeds, would this be a bit high for a cpu fan of this quality or does it sound about right?

hmm seems like the asus program was reporting the temps wrong or something. with core temp i get

26
30
25
25

Sounds good to me :) I wouldnt worry about idle temps though. Just make sure your load temps are reasonably safe. A zalman 9700 cooler should tame a Q6600 at stock no probs I would have thought.

with zalman 9700@ full speed antec 900 all fans medium speed thermal paste mx2 hope it helps

That’s very low, a good deal lower than my watercooled quad when its under full load!

Doesn’t look like you have all cores under full load there though, hence the differing temps between cores, but temps do seem fine regardless.

oh you confused me, after I read your second post and then comparing that screenshot I could only assume those were not idle temps.

As I said before, dont worry about idle temps, just keep an eye on load temps when all 4 cores are working flat out.

What could stress all the core 100%? Would super pi do that?

I have the Q6600 @ 3.2ghz, and it idles at around 40 degree with a 9700LED.

MY Q6600 @ 3.3 ghz gets to about 60C under full loading of all four cores in prime 95... I think its a great cooler and helps to cool the motherboard components around the cpu socket too (one of the reasons I went for it).
