hi guys, iv bought this new quad core processor in the cpuid software it only shows to 2 core and 2 threads is this correct for a quad core system. plus i keep getting bsod if i activate some of the seting in the bios the error code is 0x00000050

my current system specs:
q9450 @2.66
p5n32-e sli
1x evga 8800 gtx
4gb ram geil @800mhz
2 hdx 300gb

Thats not normal, bad luck. +1 for newer bios.
Is the quad on the compatibility list for the motherboard? I believe there are some out there that support dual core but not quad core

i think it is my bad luck or stupidity this isnt even supported by the motherboard well not officially and but some ppl have had luck on getting this to work, i should have done my homework.

thanks for the input guys

That's all I can find in terms of Core 2 architecure in the specs.

Looks like it won't work. Best you're getting on that board is a 65nm Quad or 45nm Duo, depending on whether you prefer cores/speed.

That board doesn't support 45nm quads.
None of the 650/680s do.
Some will sort of work but none will work well.

As you have discovered it doesn't work properly.
You have 2 choices swap the CPU for a 65nm quad or get a new MB.

sorry dude he speaks the truth ,650/680 only do 45nm dual cores , half the reason there was the work round product the 780i

As said the board dosent officially support 45nm quads, however some boards like the P5N-E SLI 650i board have been proven to work with them, in fact im sure someone posted pics up on this forum.

Now i think if it wasnt going to work it just wouldnt post. The fact its in and working seems to indicate to me that if you reinstall windows you should find it sees all 4 cores.

What does the bios say, does it correctly id the chip?

open up msconfig, go to the boot tab and click 'advanced options'

Check the 'detect HAL' box and click ok.

check the 'make all boot settings permanent' and click apply

restart

worked for me.
