Hey guys I just bought the quadcore package from here
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-038-OK&groupid=701&catid=339&subcat=791

I had a dabble with overclocking and managed to get 333 on the fsb with 9 9 9 12 timings and 1000 on the ram but after running 4 versions of prime95 torture test it failed on one of them on the 5th test :( and rebooted.

im not too good with knowing how much voltage to push threw so if anyone has any recommendations then please let me know :)

but thats not really my dialemma******

After setting everything to default and doing a clean xp pro sp2 install i went to turn my system on today and the monitor wouldnt come on... i tried the monitor in the 2nd input in the gcard with no joy aswell as all possible varietys i could think of with removing all hardware bar bare essensials and even resetting the mobo by removing the battery with no joy.

I was just wondering if there is any reason why the monitor would do this?

my spec.

7800gtx 256mb ram
2x 1gb crucial 6400xms2 twinx
asus p5k mobo
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
36gb western digital raptor
samsung 20x20 sata dvdrw
thermalright ultra 120 extreme cpu cooler

and ive got 3 other sata hds

my first feelings are that my psu might be struggling? but surly if it was it would hang or reset its self?

psu is a Enermax Noisetaker 485W EG495AX-VE(W) PSU

i did a calculator test and it recommended 600w

ps thanks for reading and sorry about my poorly written out post my heads crap when it comes to writing these things.

I'd definetly tighten up those memory timings, that's VERY slack timings for that RAM. Switch it to 4-4-4-12 and use a 1:1 ratio for the FSB:DRAM, your RAM is only then running at 667 Mhz and you have another 133 Mhz of headroom before your RAM is even back at stock. If you're on 333 Mhz then your CPU should be at 3Ghz now which is very respectable for an old stepping Q6600 (you don't have the new stepping which is a G0).

Check the RAM voltage and make sure that are pushing the correct and stock voltage through it first, you should be @ 1.8v which is probably enough but check anyway what the volts should be. After that I'd add a SMALL piece of voltage through the CPU in the BIOS (about +0.025v) and redo the Orthos test and see if you're stable. If not then add another small amount and recheck the stability.

Regarding your actual problem that you mentioned, it sounds like your machine could just need the BIOS reseting. I noticed you said you did reset the CMOS but did you leave the battery out for a sufficient time? If you've taken it out and put it back in the machine in about 30 seconds then your CMOS probably hasn't resetted. Try doing it for about 5 - 10 minutes and checking again. It might just be something simple like that rather than something more sinister.

Those tests are rubbish, I would ignore them. I've checked them before and they say I need about 700w, yet I'm on a 520w PSU and have no problems at all. Your PSU is also good enough for your system.

told you im crap at writing these things :D i ment 44412 not 99912 sorry.

is the quadcore i got rather crap for overclocking then? and on prime95 how far should i let the test go before being pretty confident its safe to run?

sounds good about the psu :) and also what you said about the battery i probobly only left it 30seconds yep.

anyone in stoke want to help me overclock this :D haha.

what will it be called in bios to add this voltage to?

thanks :)
