Recently purchased a Oculus Quest2 with the PC link. This is following my old Rift CV1, that I managed to sell. No more separate sensors to worry about. Much better display than the CV1, although the CV1's contrast was a little better. Maybe because the CV1 had OLED screens rather than LCD on the Quest 2. I am very pleased with it, especially the stand alone use. Like having a portable gaming PC, with bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity. Much lighter and more comfy than the CV1. Very easy to set-up. As if the features were not good enough, you can even connect to your PC and play all PC based VR games, sims and apps. Although my old, GTX980Ti is not really ideal for VR, it plays all my PC based VR games OK, with the exception of MS Flightsim 2020. Very good value. Just one small gripe, when using the PC link. The USB 3.0 link does not charge the Quest2, not sure if it should do? Overall, I am very impressed, superb!

It's an amazing upgrade over a CV1. If you get a chance, try to take it to a huge playspace, and do proper room scale. It's incredible being able to physically walk arould a large area without any wires.

It is the Oculus link cable, bought it from Argos, so I’m sure it’s the official one, oculus on the box. But it does not charge the Quest 2?

How are you determining this (sorry if it seems a daft question). I have a USB C to C cable, I can use it to charge the headset when I'm not using it. When I'm playing, it can depend on how hard the headset is working. It won't always charge it, but it'll last a hell of a lot longer than in standalone.

I also believe, that at least at first, charging didn't kick in unless it was under 75% (or something).

It should do, but will depend on how much power your USB port supports. Are you plugging it straight into a USB C port or using an adaptor for a standard USB3 port?

Mine won't charge the quest 2 through the link cable either when plugged into the front panel or rear usb c ports. Even with the headset in standby mode. It will charge the quest 1. It'll charge the quest2 over a 2m a to c cable on the same board.

I tried the official link cable with an a to c adaptor in the port that will charge with a 2m a to c cable today. Plays fine but won't charge.
From my limited testing, 3 cables and 2 pcs, it seems that cable length and usb port power output are a factor. Seems to be a correlation between oculus usb speed test results and charging as well. 1700-1800 is flakey. 2000-2100 works but won't charge while playing. 2500-2600 charges slowly while playing.
I've also found that the while not in use the headset can lose a third of it's charge over a day unless it's powered down with a 3 second button press. In standby mode it retains 100% charge.
The fact that Asus sells a very expensive USB/thunderbolt sata powered add on card for my motherboard is only a coincidence.

If you found this post useful please give the poster cakes.

I believe the charging doesn't happen until the battery gets to below a certain level. Also, it will partially combat the battery drain but not completely so your battery will still go down in use, just slower.

This!! Not sure what the level is though, I think it's 75%.

It really is a great headset! I'm surprised you said much lighter and comfier than the cv1 though, having come from the rift s to the quest 2 comfort was the one thing I thought was worse with the quest....but yeah the cv1 to Quest 2 upgrade seems huge!

Glad you're pleased with it. Must admit, when I moved from CV1 to the Quest 2 I was very underwhelmed by it.
However, now I've gotten a pile of accessories to make it useable, it's great :)

Hmm out if interest what did you not like about it compared to cv1? I'm going to guess lack of oled screen being one of them? ;)

Nope, the screen was the highlight for me :) Also, wireless is great!

I didn't like:
The sound was awful
The head strap was terrible (couldn't get it seated nicely on my head)
The facial interface was scratchy and hurt the bridge of my nose.
The batteries only lasted a couple of hours
It felt a lot cheaper than the cv1 (plastics quality) bearing in mind the Quest 2 was only 50euros cheaper
The controller tracking isn't as good (If you put your hands down by your waist or reach up over your shoulder in Robo Recall to grap a new gun it can lose tracking)

So, yeah, was very unimpressed at first.

But...I've fixed all those things now (apart from the tracking obv. and that's only minor really) so I'm now happy :)

Yeah all these can be fixed with add ons so that makes sense. I'm honestly amazed at what they've achieved with the tracking without external sensors honestly. In normal play I've never lost tracking even in robo recall!
