New radiator cleaning

Just got an EK XE 480, says on the box that it doesn't need to be cleaned before installation but I washed it anyway and there was quite a few black spots came out into the bath

When I took it out of the box I noticed it had a noticable chemical odour ( couldn't say exactly what ), thought it might have just been the packaging
but I think its the paint they have used on the fins or enclosure,
drying it with a hot air fan and its worse now ( fills the entire garage )

Does anybody else have this radiator ? do you think it will fade quickly ? should I wash it with certain ingredients e.g. soap ?

Had about 4 other radiators prior to this and not experienced similar before with the others ( AX 360 etc )

Did that and dried it again, seems to be some reduction but its still noticable,
its not a unique chemical I've encountered it before but nor is it common, I think the last time was a car but cant remember specifically, thats what its similar to though, a new car or one that has a persistent character

what I might have to do is make a temporary loop and run it off my itx computer to heat the radiator for 24 hours + , that will mean I cant use my computer for that time though :/

I would guess the smell is as you say from some sort of resistant paint coating.

It shouldn't affect the actual use as a radiator, but will just smell as it fades.

I guess its a case of how much it bothers you sir, maybe stick it in the spare room with the window open for 24 hours :)

I've got it in the garage until its better, connected to a fury x which is running heaven benchmark, going to leave it running overnight, today it smelled like a chemistry lab and then later on shoe polish, it isnt filling the entire room now though you have to go up close to it to notice,
its not as hot as before though

Its a good chance to test the performance of the radiator actually and make sure other things work, I found that the 270 photon reservoir the top fill port actually doesn't work properly, had to fill it from the bottom which was difficult because my funnel doesnt fit inside a g1/4 hole so I have to control the pouring rate or it overflows

Radiator seems to work well though, with 4 AP-15s at 1850rpm it gets a delta T of 4 degrees just with the one radiator ( cpu is not in the loop though )

Wondering if its going to be possible to dissipate around 1000W with just this radiator

Really strange!

Ive never heard of bad smelling rad's before, you can't be the only one thou!

I wasn't aware than any single rad can remove 1000w of heat thus why most people have multi rads in a system. I know its a 480 but still ...

I have a 420 ready for my build and still thinking about a 360 or something similar in the bottom.

Someone with more experience than me will hopefully pipe in :)

Its 6 CM thick with 16 FPI, supposedly outperforms the AX 480 with good fans, the only one that might be better is the monsta rads which are 8CM thickness

It would probably be more like 800w because I am using fury x and they cant overclock properly so probably not more than 300w each and then it will be a 5820k at maximum speed so maybe 200w from that ?

The case I am using can take a 360 at the front but I am not sure how that will work with regards to the reservoir mounting, have not checked yet
