Hi,

I bought 2 new drives and want to install them as a RAID 0 device. However, I want to keep my old drive installed as well and keep the data on there.

I think I know how to set up the RAID on the 2 drives and install windows, however, my question is what do I do with Windows on the original drive - can I add the drive as a non-bootable device and delete the C partition once the RAID is up and running?

unplug it when installing xp on the raid

plug it back in after install is completed, and set the boot device as the raid, and not the old drive

the old drive will be given E: -you can then do what you want with the files!

That`s exactly what i did and windows would not show the old drive, but would show up in disk management with no letter & no partitions had to repartition it & format! strange.

you can just right click and do "set drive letter" i think this only happens in 2003/64bit but i may be mistaken

Didn't let me do that even WindowXP Pro here.
[Edit] just read up on it & windows will not active an older hard drive unless it is in place at install time if it has conflicting drive letters.
So its safer to change the drive letters old the old drive first before hand.
