I recently purchased a 1gb stick from a well known auction site. It was originally purchased 17/01/08. When I installed it my pc started as normal, but when I went to system information and system properties it only showed my original memory.

Memory I bought was Major Memory Geil 1gb PC3200 DDR 400 CL=3-8-4-4.
The memory I already have installed is OCZ Z PC3200 2x512 EL Dual Channel Platinum Edition CL=2-3-2-5.

I have also removed the OCZ memory and just used the Geil and I don't even get the normal Asus boot screen, so I can't even get into the bios.

My board is a Asus A8V Deluxe with the latest non-beta bios. yes I know its bloody old but I'm only a squaddie on crap money and I blagged this a few years back.

Any help very much appreciated.

Nope. I even used the Crucial on-line memory upgrade checker thingy and it showed only the 2 OCZ slots filled and the other 2 empty.

Had he feeling he sold me a duffer after I'd tried it so many times, with all the different options I could think of. Well I have his address, its not far from me. I shall pay him a little visit hopefully before I fly out again or when I'm next on leave. :D

Thanks for taking the time to read and offer help.

Try clearing the cmos, then try the Geil. The reason why it is not working is the memory is mixed and not matching, ie another set of OCZ Z PC3200 2x512 EL Dual Channel Platinum Edition.

Thanks Oldphart will give that a try. As to the not matching, when I use the Crucial memory thingy it comes up with sticks that are the same as the Geil, but not Geil. If you know what I mean Harry.

Thanks again.

Pharty.................... if the Geil doesn't even show up in system info or even on the Crucial scan thingy then how can memtest check it?

Thanks

try cleaning the connections on the memory...use sommit like aftershave.
its worked for me on more than 1 occasion

Pharty...................I ran the crucial on-line memory thingy and whilst not stating the Geil brand, others mentioned were of the same spec.

I have another board a Asus A8N-SLI SE which I blagged off somebody which I will try it on. Will have to wait as I will have to get a graphics card to fit it.
