Hello,
I have a*MSI X99S Sli Plus*motherboard with 4*Crucial DDR4 4GB*RAM sticks. Today I bought a*Ballistix 16GBx1 DDR4*stick, but whenever I add it, the system won't boot (it turns off after some seconds). I also tried replacing one of the 4Gb stick with it, but I've got the same result. I also tried removing all 4Gb RAM sticks and leaving the new one alone, but it didn't work.

What I would like to know is: am I doing something wrong, or the RAM is incompatible with my motherboard?

I think you would be better off with the matched 4x4GB sticks, X99 supports quad channel but they'll need to be a matched set to run effectively.

Matched sticks provide better stability. All rams should at the same level of efficiency.

Many instances in the past of non matched pairs failing to work together and if they do run the do so at below their best. I'm just saying that a matched set would be the best option.
Andi.
