Im struggling to pick ram for my new build.

Im getting the AsRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 mobo along with an I5 2500K.
I have looked at ram, now I dont know what to pick.

Obviously it has to be DDR3.
Which "memory speed" and which "memory speed mhz" should i be going with?
Also which module, channel, pins and socket do I need.

Never used to be so many different things I had to check to pick ram.

Also which will give me best performance for gaming? and 8gb or 16gb???

Thanks lads.

Just buy the cheapest 1600MHz kit from a good manufacturer which will run at around 1.5V.

4GB is enough for gaming and 8GB is plenty. 16GB on a gaming rig would be wasted.

If you were buying from OcUK today then these for example:

Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £43.99 on this week only. If you're getting a big CPU cooler then the large heat spreaders on these would likely interfere.

Alternatively with low profile heat spreaders the the Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit @ £56.99.

RAM prices are quite volatile at the moment so see what's available at the time you order.

Most games won't use more than 4GB but this could change in the future so 8GB is a safe option and saves having to upgrade later.

You also need a 64 bit operating system for more than 4GB.

The RAM you've linked to is fine but the taller heat spreaders can interfere with some CPU coolers.
