s1156 can support dual channel memory mode, however it does not support triple channel mode. Hence, if you try to run a triple channel memory kit (designed for s1366) in a s1155 system it will only run in single channel mode.

Hence, you really want to buy a kit designed for dual channel operation. These kits either use two or four modules. Fewer modules means less strain on the memory controller - so two sticks is preferable, especially if you plan to overclock.

So im stuck in poostream without a paddle really?

I NEED to upgrade from SKT775.

So it doesnt seem right going to 1155 when 1366 is still here.

Time for a new post.

In pretty much all tasks a s1155 i7 will be faster than a s1366 i7 clocked at the same frequency.

s1155 may not have triple channel, but tbh dual channel DDR3 is not a performance bottleneck in modern systems. So s1366 may seem better on paper in that area, but in reality SB will be a step up in real-world performance.

a S1155, i7... What about these new CPU's that are set to release soon.
Will they be worth a look.

The s1155 i7 (along with the new i5s and i3s) are the new CPUs that Intel are about to release on January 9th.

Not to be confused with the current generation s1156 i7/i5/i3s, ofcourse.

Exactly :)

Though if you are mainly going to be gaming, then you may want to look at the considerably cheaper i5 2500K (out at the same time as the i7s).

I would certainly suggest waiting for the in-depth reviews on launch day before choosing between i5 and i7.
