New RAM with different RAM?

Looking at getting new RAM for my PC, I currently have this:

None of my system is overclocked.

However looking around the RAM is still pretty dear for another 4GB (£32) considering you can buy 8GB kits for £5-10 more.

My bro also has the same PC as me pretty much so where thinking of getting a 8GB set, splitting the price and each get an additional 4GB of RAM.

And we are wondering if we could get different RAM kits to what we currently have and use it with what we currently have, something like this:

And this is our motherboard:

If we did split the RAM would we have any problems with the whole dual channel stuff at all? Since only 3 slots would be filled.

Thanks in advance :)

Adding a single 4GB stick to go with the existing 2x2GB sticks is not the best idea.

Your system works best with RAM in dual channel mode, so 2 or 4 sticks.

Using 3 sticks will mess up dual channel operation and you may end up with 3 sticks operating in single channel mode.

Ah I thought something like that may happen. Thanks :)

So then, better off just buying new RAM and selling my RAM to my bro for about £25-30 or vice versa then.

So out of those kits, which would be better then? Primary use is gaming.

All those kits are much of a muchness for speed and timings.

Either one of the cheapest 2 will be fine, Corsair XMS3 or Kingston HyperX.

Those 2 are only the price they are until Wednesday morning.

Personally I have 16GB of the XMS3 and it runs perfectly fine 1600MHz @ ~1.5V.

Ok thanks :)

Will probably just get one of them then.

Also, I presume that all of those kits that I listed will work ok with my current MB, just iirc when getting my set-up a few years ago, during my research I remember some people mentioning the corsair memory kits weren't stable or something with the P55 chipset (i5 750) particularly the GB motherboards, it may have been more the Vengeance kits though I think, was quite a while ago so I can't remember exactly :p

I've just bought the same thing and have a GA P55 USB3 mobo too. could do with some guidence as to what to adjust in the bios.

Thanks.
