Lian Li PZ-Z70 Diamond Series Full Tower Case - Black @ £259.99 inc VAT

CA-260-LL_400.jpg

One of the most popular cases in Lian Li’s vast range is the PC-A70F, renowned for its spacious interior, sleek finish and somewhat affordable pricing (compared to other Lian Li cases). Through the marriage of design between itself and the PC-B25F was born the PC-Z70. This is another case that complies to HTPX standards thanks to 11 expansion slots and a large depth. The most striking feature is its smooth plain façade with smoothly rounded edges on the side and angular corners at the top and bases. Interestingly, there are no intakes fans at the front.

Lian Li PC-Z60 Diamond Series Midi Tower Case - Black @ £199.99 inc VAT

CA-259-LL_400.jpg

The PC-Z70’s smaller brother is the PC-Z60. It has the same distinctive plain but stylish front fascia but internally, it is very different. The smaller size means that only 8 PCIe brackets are present at the back and the motherboard cable management holes aren’t as numerous or lined with rubber grommets. Instead of the front mounted HDD trays, the PC-Z60 welcomingly features side mounted trays and as such front intake fans that suck air from the side vents on the front aluminium panel.

Lian Li PC-U6B Special Edition Midi Tower Case - Black/Red @ £229.99 inc VAT

CA-262-LL_400.jpg

There's support for Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX mainboards, and graphics cards up to 310mm in length. Internally, there are three 3.5in and two 2.5in bays, plus a single 5.25in bay externally. The mounting system for drives is tool-less, and Lian Li adds anti-vibration thumbscrews with rubber suspension to smooth out any noise vibrations.

Cooling duties are taken care of by dual 120mm side panel fans, which include washable air filters to keep any dust at bay. The ability to control fan speeds is also incorporated, and airflow is enhanced further, thanks to ventilation holes in the front and rear panels. These too are protected by washable air filters. If it's liquid cooling you're interested in, Lian Li adds two rubber-ringed holes for tubing to pass through, as well.
There's USB 3.0 support, together with a complement of other connectivity options, as you'd expect. A 530mm red LED kit is also included - if you want to add some colour to the mix.

Unfortunately their last few cases have been rather expensive. I paid £165.00 for my A70F about 9 months ago. They are incredibly well built/finished cases, but the plain aluminium interiors on a lot of their range is a minus point.

With the price of aluminium rocketing you can sort of understand the prices. But it's just not worth getting one new unless it's one of their premium cases. Also the first two cases look rather plain.

I think the prices are justified considering their incredible build quality - everything is mm perfect.

Any one who purchases that snail thing deserves a punch to the face in my opinion.

at that price i will agree with you, especially seeing that it can only take mATX boards

at 20% of the price its at now then i might consider buying it though

I have 5 year old relatives who can make something millimetre perfect out of plasticine! Saying something is mm perfect (Unless said something is a building) is like saying something is 'space age' technology. The space age ended a decade or so ago. ;)

I'm all for paying for good quality products, but good quality products can be had for way way less money in this case.

That's a ridiculous comparison when the whole point is that other case manufacturers don't have the same quality control and exacting standards...

If your 5 year old relatives could made hundreds of thousands of plasticine models to a perfect standard and ship them out then fine. I have used NZXT cases where motherboard mounting holes are slightly off position. I've owned a Coolermaster case where you had to force the case side on at one end because the latch was slightly off position. Just do a search of these forums alone to see the problems people are having with Fractal Design cases.

I'm not defending the prices on those cases - they don't even look that good. But one of the reasons people pay lots of money for LL cases is that in terms of their construction, all of their cases are literally *millimeter* perfect with excellent quality control. Just to take a small example - their HDD hotswap bays are made to such a high amount of precision that you can use them even with the sata connection on the drive snapped off. Because when you push the drive into the bay, each individual connector will line up absolutely perfectly and just touch.

I'm all for paying for good quality products, but good quality products can be had for way way less money in this case.

Well, it's like anything premium - cars, graphics cards etc. Do you want 'good quality' or do you want 'the best quality'? The difference between stuff at the very very top and the stuff below it (e.g. Lian Li and Silverstone vs Corsair) is small, but it's a significant difference that's worth paying a lot more for to lots of people.

Of course it's a ridiculous comparison, it was hardly a serious post. My point was that milimetre perfect isn't particularly exact by today's manufacturing standards when CNC machines are capable of machining down to one one-thousandth of a milimetre.

Given the production facilities a company like Lian Li must have access to I'd expect their cases to be extremely accurately machined, and in fact any company that ships out cases with inaccurate machining is just being shoddy. Any vaguely modern manufacturing equipment is capable of repeatably and accurately machining down to a tenth of a milimetre at the very least, surely.

Should have taken it more tongue in cheek i guess :p.

Point still stands though. You sound disbelieving but you should actually compare a case by LL or Silverstone, and a case by, say, NZXT or Coolermaster. If production facilities are as accurate as you say across the board then why do you get shoddy products in any sector?! Most companies have poor quality control, and their manufacturing simply isn't as good as others.
