Still not really that viable as a home user backup solution considering hard drives are so cheap these days, I imagine these would be good for businesses though or if you have to post large amounts of data across the world as the savings in postage alone could be significant.

I have to admit as I am looking at home backup options the BD-RE is a nice solution. but with it being only 50GB and then the cost of the BD-writer I just cant justify it. its a shame

Price of media is still a big turn-off for me. No fault of OcUK but it's going to have to get a lot cheaper before it becomes economical.

it is a shame. til blu ray takes off, not a lot of people use a blu ray in the computer. till then, dvd rom is the way to go for another couple of years.

Yeah it's still cheaper to use DVDR despite needing lots of them and the hassle.

Bluray is getting there. With the writers under £100 now it is only a matter of time before people buy these instead of a dvd writer drive.

However, the media will cost a matter of pennies to produce and the price of the media is jsut because the manufacturers can.

I remember paying £150 (inc 25 dvd-rs that were £1 each at the time) for my 2 speed dvd writer and being able to do all sorts of cool stuff for my original xbox it was epic.
