Hi all - my old Yamaha receiver has bitten the dust and Richer Sounds have given me a credit note for £350 .

I need a new receiver and can't really wait months and months for hdmi 2.1 to come out. The Sony DN1080 seems to be the one to go for- I'm using a 5.1 setup with q acoustic 1000 speakers.

Are there any other contenders I should be aware of?

I wasn't a fan of the Yamaha to be honest. Great spec and served me well for 4.5 years but I took the opportunity to try a new manufacturer

The Sony is really excellent compared to the old yamaha. It blew me away the first times I listened to it (now my ears are used to it it is less impactful) . To be fair to the Yamaha, the Sony is 33% more expensive .

So far so good!

Had a Sony 1050 was happy with it till hdmi board but the dust and luckily supercare at RS gave me £300 credit then bought a flagship Yamaha amp in the excitement, oops.

The Sony had great bass bombastic but was strident in treble department just factor that into your speaker choice and room acoustics.
