I had that too. I was scared...then fine when I looked at the booklet. :D

Yeah, you can't scrap the car yourself with the new V5C...

You also don't own the car now either. :/

What do you mean you down own the car?

Do you mean a V5 is not proof of onwership and a reciept of purchase is?

Well, it now clearly states it's proof of registration and for tax and registration purposes and is not proof of ownership.

As below really.

The V5 details the registered keeper, not the owner. This has always been the case. It's just made more clear now.

Indeed, but it's a bit arse really as technically there is the possibility that you can't prove you own a vehicle.

New V5C below for all that don't know what we're on about.

I have one for the Jag, it's quite ...err fetching, does kind of clash with my car though, maybe I should ask them if they can do it in a dark green :p

I know...my point is that it's more obvious that you can't now.

So nothing has changed.
If you thought the V5 was proof of ownership before the changes you were wrong, and you'd still be wrong now.

The fact that it's more obvious now doesn't change the fact that it was never proof of ownership.

He's saying it's no longer possible for him to pass off the reems of cars he steals as his own when he sells them.

If you broke the car yourself you used to have a tickbox so you could send the V5 in yourself and declare it scrapped. Now you have to take the car to a registered scrapper so they can put it through the system.

Correct. Extremely annoying.
