Hi everyone, well i have had many years of being really happy with my HDR FOX T2 but the time has come to need a new box, although not really sure at the moment whats out there thats similar?

I would probably want to stick with humax but open to other suggestions, i need the box to pretty much just do what the HDR FOX T2 did, i dont mind if it has smart apps on and if it connects to the internet but this isn't a must, i just assume most probably will have this now.

I would probably need at least a 500gb, probably a 1tb drive, but i just need it to connect to freeview HD and to record, do any new boxes record more than 2 things at a time? again i know the HDR FOX T2 records 2 at a time, if its still only 2 then thats ok i guess, more would be nice though.

I have heard of some having 2 tuners, would these be ones that record more than 2 things? if so how does that work, do you just still connect the 1 aerial socket but it duplicates the signal or something?

thanks

James

I think Humax do a box with two tuners that lets you record 3 things at once.

If you're with BT Broadband, BT TV might also be worth considering if you can get a good deal. It's basically a BT-branded Humax YouView box you get, but with extra channels delivered over broadband.

Get a new/used BT G6 box on ebay they are the UltraHD 4k branded ones. It's a rebranded Humax T4000.

I do have BTTV but it worked great as a standalone player and it's one of the fastest Freeview HD recorders out there. They are twin tuner with 1TB hdd. I picked mine up from a pawn shop for £30.

I have got a BT Youview box recently and have no problems with it. 2 tuners
It is made by Humax. You can buy Humax rather than BT branded ones but they are a lot more expensive. I can put up with the BT logo on the front to save about £50
I got this one because my old Panasonic Plasma TV couldn't get iplayer any more, this box connects to the internet.
I have left my Humax Freesat box connected as well, so I could record 4 channels at once if I wanted, I did have to look up how to change the remote control frequency for my Freesat as they both reacted to the same remote control.
You can only record 2 channels at once with 2 tuner boxes

Dont forget with BT TV you can actually record two freeview channels and as many internet channels as the box will allow. Caught me out a few times when I've got 3 recordings going at same time.
Obviously on a standalone BT TV box outside of a BT contract this doesnt apply.

You also get the fugly new GUI too. BT UltraHD boxes are quite fast though.

Do you retain the 4k netflix and freeview recording outside of a BT contract ? if so for <£100 on ebay seems a reasonable solution.

Humax themselves do not yet offer an hdmi2.0 4k box with x265 afaik, when will that be released.?

Humax boxes (still running a fox t2 and foxsat myself) are well built and with these older ones can plug in usb media, manually specify recordings, export recordings, plus remote control apps running on a tablet, it is very versatile.

Do these BT boxes function correctly without ANY form of internet connection?
I was just about to start searching for a freeview HD recorder for my mum (ideally 2 tuners and about 500GB) but she doesn't have (or need or want) any form of internet connection. I just want her to have a freeview HD tuner that is nice and easy to use to view the TV guide, schedule and playback recordings and which updates its EPG via the freeview signal.

Without a BT TV Subscription it just acts as a freeview HDR box. You lose the BT player and BT internet channels and all the players still work including Netflix (4k). No reason why it shouldnt my Samsung 4k Bluray player also has Netflix 4k. If you do not have an internet connection it just acts as a freeview box with recording function.

Not sure whether its still available but the Fox HDR T2 and Fox T2 you could download custom non official software for it and do all manner of things.
