Hello Everyone,

I am looking to build a new gaming PC that can handle a lot more than just the World of Warcraft. I would like to play Crysis 2 for example. What I would also like to do is move to the new Core i# range of CPU's. I have approx £1500 to spend and would love to get some feedback on a good motherboard, cpu and graphics card that can handle the "better" games that are starting to come out.

If there are any further details I can give please let me know.

Hi,

Do you need a copy of Windows, a monitor, mouse/keyboard or is it just the tower.

You should be able to get something really good for this sort of money.

I'm really hoping you don't want Windows/Mouse/Keyboard/Screen xD

I think the word overkill comes to mind when I think of any game having to face this... Went for pure graphical power, could probably change the graphics out for a single 580 over the SLI 570's, and put in an i7 2600k processor instead, but yeah as I said, went for pure Graphics power....

PSU is also a bit overkill, could probably get away with an 850W, but 1000W will guarantee rock solidness

Graphics tends to be the way to go KD, but I'd tend to drop down to a single overkill card unless he's playing 120Hz/3D/2560x1600/multiscreen, and get the extra SSD. One overkill is plenty for 1920x, and an extra SSD = faster load times for more games.

Still overkill, just cos he has £1500 doesnt mean he has to spend it all, an i5 2500k with single 570 is more than ample for anything now or in the near future, unless he's gaming in 3D or across 3 screens or anything

Do you even need a 570? I would've thought a 6950/560 would be sufficient, particularly as the 2 gig 6950 can unlock to a 6970. I suggested the SSD(s) simply because they're worth getting if you have the cash spare. Certainly one dedicated to WoW and the OS would go miles in terms of improving gaming performance. As for the motherboard, the P8P67 is a very popular and reliable choice, whereas I haven't heard much of the MSI board.

Also, imo the HAF 912 looks like arse. Personal preference shining through there.

A fair point there, however if I had £1,500 for a new PC I'd at least get a high end case and a decent size SSD.

This is actually true, I just felt like doing the complete overkill build because I could xD

Tbh, with your budget, and guessing you wanted it to last for a few years, I'd probably up the 570 to 580, maybe up the 912 to one of the nicer full tower cases, a corsair HX Psu, and probably an Akasa Venom/Titan Fenrir/Thermaltake Frio for CPU cooling

Oh and add an SSD for booting from and maybe a couple of games.

If you're willing to utilise the money thne there's no harm getting a 160-240gb SSD as it will dramatically increase loading speed... I went from a 160gb Sata HDD to a 160gb Intel SSD and it was a huge difference to games and OS. I get from Computer off, to being fully ready in WoW in ~20-30 seconds. I'll time it when I get home. ^^ (If you're only gaming then it's plenty enough but if you want storage... obviously get a 1tb F1) and there's no point getting an i7 for gaming as an i5 generally rules the gaming world unless that is changing now?

If that was my budget, I'd aim to get the 580 if I could fit everything else I wanted in there as well, if not then I'd get 570 and maybe custom watercooling too. Plenty of options with money

An SSD is a must if you're spending this sort of money.
