Hi guys,

I'm about to order this rig (I already have everything else) and wanted to get some final opinions. I want to get a X38 mobo for PCI-X 2.0 hence the Asus Maximus over the Abit IP35 Pro. The 8800GT is a temp card until the high end 9800 cards are out. I'll be overclocking.

DDR3 is just too expensive atm, not worth the extra imo. I am tempted to stick with XP for the time being though.

That is an excellent choice of components imo. The maximus has proven to be an excellent overclocking motherboard combined with the GO. No need to alter your spec.

Is ther enot a compatability problem as its CrossFire enabled and you have an nVidia card?

hes not using crossfire though, crossfire is only enabled when using 2 ati cards, if you only have 1 ati card, OR, 1 nvidia card, then crossfire is disabled.

just a thought, If you're gonna be Ocing... would it be worth getting 2GB of 8500 instead of 4GB of 6400???

I wouldn't go to Vista untill there is a really compelling reason to do so. XP for me for the forseeable future. DX10 is not a compelling reason for me.

Tuniq Tower - It is BIG. It needs a backplate on the mobo. backplate can be very difficult to get off if you stick it on. Might be better to to get a cooler that doesn't require you to strip out your Mobo from the case.

Processor - just playing devil's advocate here - are you sure you want 4 slower cores rather than 2 faster ones at this point in time. Of course you can OC the socks off both.

id drop vista and go 2gb of ddr3, (change the mobo to ddr3 aswell)

Hey Cupra, absolutely not. The real life benefits to DDR3 from DDR2 are very little in my opinion, certainly not worth the price premium that you pay for DDR3. The majority of people would benefit from 4GB of DDR2 RAM (Their is nothing wrong with DDR2, it still has a lot of life left in it) than 2GB of DDR3. :)

Hey CaDLoN, unless RichL is looking to overclock the Q6600 above the 3.6GHz then 6400 memory is absolutely fine.

Hello EffBee, If he is looking at building a new system and needs a Operating System, then their is no reason not to purchase Windows Vista. :)

Fitting a back plate to a motherboard honestly isn't much hassle at all. :)

RichL is looking to overclock his system so in all honesty, buying the Q6600 is the right thing to do in my opinion. :)

Hey RichL, brilliant specification you have produced their. You should be extremely pleased when you get it all up and running. :)
