Hi - first post... :)

Looking for some opinions on buying a new kit.

Here is my current spec:

A64 3700
Gigabyte GA-K8n ultra 9
1GB (2x512) Corsair 3200 TWINX-CPT
Nvidia Geforce 7800GT 256MB
Akasa 400w Paxpower PSU
Lianli Case

Want to upgrade all except GFX (but maybe PSU and case)

Have been eyeing up potential parts and roughly decided on the following

Core 2 6600
2GB RAM (cant decide which brand!) please recommend
Asus P5B deluxe (?) good choice?

Will be using it for the usual tasks and a fair bit of gaming.

Have never ventured into overclocking despite being a pc builder for years, and would like to give it a try. According to mags the above board and CPU are ripe for this purpose...?

Points I am considering whilst planning this:

DX10, Alan wake & UT2007

Also need a silent but effective cooling case (baby on the way!) and was thinking perhaps the Antec p180

Will I also need a new PSU?

Dont think I'm interested in SLi but like the idea of the 7950x2 at some point...

I would like to upgrade now but think prices may come down by January, as they are a little steep just now. :(

Any advice/opinions would be appreciated!

Cheers

Your current PSU will be fine as the Core 2 Duo's consume less power than your Athlon 64. I have that exact PSU powering a Pentium D & X1800XT both of which are more power hungry than your setup.
Everyone seems to be recommending the Geil DDR2 800 Ultra stuff, which has come down to a decent price again. It is very compatable & overclockable by all accounts.
I don't expect the Core 2 Duo's to drop much in price any time soon, though mobo's may creep down as new ones are released. If you are overclocking, you could drop the CPU down to a 6400.
