hey guys just built a new rig and am having problems getting it to work. spec is as follows:

Intel quad core qx6700
Asus striker extreme mobo (stock cooler)
1gb ddr2 pc8500 (more on the way)
500gb haitachi sata hdd (brand new)
BFG 8800gtx oc video
22" asus monitor

the problem:

Installed all the components, all power leads (extra 2 for the graphics), sata connections, everything.
Turned it on and the lcd poster on the mobo kept stopping at "cpu initi". Eventually got past that and started to format the hdd. When it reached 100% it said that windows could not format the drive.
I restarted the system to try agian and now nothing. All the fans (case, cpu etc) spin but the grapnics don't kick in, the hdd light stays on for about 10s then goes off.

Any suggestios?

I've checked the asus site and the most common problem is not connecting the additional power cables, which I have done. I'm stumped.

only have one stick of ram in see if that makes a diffrence also clear cmos that seems to fix a lot of problems on the striker extreme

i only have 1 stick of ram. what I don't understand is that it worked to try and format the hdd, then as soon as it restarted it stopped working

it's a corsair 520w. I've somehow managed to fix that problem, but now another has come up. The computer starts, but only stays on for about 3 seconds, then it shuts down. I think the cpu temp is too high, when i was able to get in the bios it was in the mid 80's. The case has good airflowfront/side 120mm fan and rear 80mm fan) and has the stock intel hsf.

any ideas?

thanks

I'm not sure if 520w is enough for a Q6700 and a GTX.

But there's no way it should be hitting 80c in BIOS.

Is it seated properly?

I would check the thermal compound is plentiful and has no air bubbles. double check the HSF connection to the motherboard as it sounds like the motherboard is protectecting the CPU on boot up.
