Hi

I have just (yesterday) built my new system with bits from OCUK. :D
It is based on the
Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme LGA775 QX6850 3.00GHz Retail / Asus Blitz Formula / 2GB Crucial PC2-8500C5 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - Bundle.

Thus Far everything is running A OK and absolutely screams in comparison to my old 3.4 socket 478 system. However I being a complete novice (well its been a while since I have built a machine) Have left all settings in BIOS on Auto... and there lies my problem, CPU-Z tells me my Ram is PC2-6400 running at 400 Mhz... and the FSB: DRAM ratio is 5:6. I get the feeling that my ram isnt being used as efficiently as it should. I've had a look in the BIOS and have to admit I'm clueless as to what to change (minefield, soo many options )

I'm not keen to thrash the nuts out of the board / CPU at the moment (stock fan/heatsink) but could someone offer advice as to what settings I can use to get the best out of my ram ?

cheers

Andrew

Your RAM's running at its correct speed, 6400 (800MHz) / 2 = 400.

I don't know how much RAM dividers actually affect performance but i believe running it at 1:1 is the best.

To run your RAM at its stock speed at 1:1 your need to overclock your CPU to 3.2GHz which it will comfortably on stock volts ( 3200 / 4 = 800 ).

but the ram is rated at 8500 ? or is it? I dont know. Which settings do I play with to OC then - sorry for sounding thick but theres so many settings in BIOS for OC its kind of daunting... on my old board there was four lol.

thanks

Andrew

Oh sorry, if it's 8500 like you said you'd bought with the bundle then it's stock speed should be 1066Mhz not 800Mhz, CPU-Z should be reporting it as 533MHz then.
