Hi Guys

I'm looking for an upgrade on my current setup, spending between 800-1100 pounds max. got my last pc about 5 years ago so my knowledge on what is a 'good' setup is a bit out of date!

I'm wanting to play games like WoW on high settings, as well as games like Warhammer 2 Total War on high, not that big on shooting games

I'm currently running the following:

AMD A10-6800K APU with Radeon HD Graphics card 7700 Series 4864MB

8gig of RAM

64 bit operating system

any advice gratefully received!

i'll be honest, i dont know what overclockers deals have on.

The Ryzen 1600 (no X version) is the best CPU on the market price to performance.

This review will help you consider graphics cards.

@ 1080p you'll want a 1060.

For gaming i'd go for the following;

Ryzen 5 1600 (free fan) (ppl in the forums can help you dial in a nice easy overclock to 3.8ghz+)
Low - mid tier motherboard - im not knowledgeable enough about ryzen motherboards sorry ! perhaps someone else can help here.
16GB DDR4 @ 2666- 3000mhz (no more than 8 is really needed for gaming)
512 GB SSD (dont buy nvme or M2 etc... pointless and you wont notice the 1ms difference in load times and forget the HDD's they are too slow)
GTX 1070 or Vega 56.
500w 80+bronze - gold psu
case is personal preference.

its night and day ! - if you can build it yourself you might save a few quid : buy the components separate , youutube has loads of guides to help. it's like electronic lego with a couple of plugs from the power supply. or buy a pre-made. you got a 1080p monitor ?

Aye got a decent monitor. I built my last one but it was a while ago! Travelling a fair bit with work at the mo as well so was thinking of getting OC to build it but not sure how much I'd save

i'd recommend you watch some reviews on youtube of the hardware you are thinking of buying first too and ask on the forums to ensure you get the best price to performance per part.

just squeezing in at £1k if you use your windows copy - might even be able to drop spec'd HDD to save some cash - or to spend on a better cooler then stock wraith

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,022.45
(includes shipping: £12.60)

also doesn't help we've spec'd that ram so much- price has gone up by £40- also if you want a board with more visual flare! then Asus Strix B350- pretty much its these to boards recommend unless you want the best boards which would be Asus X370 Hero and ASRock X370 Taichi but they are over £200

saw mention of 1080p screen - if you've got one , gtx 1060 could be a good shout to save pennies- or you could just render ingame at 1440p on your 1080p screen to make the GPU work that bit harder and get some clean edges - would also last you a bit longer in its life .
Pro's and cons... if you are looking at a new screen- Vega 56 with Freesync monitor- prices are bit high for it hitting £500- specially when 64 is on deal for £530 but freesync monitors are so much more cheaper .... lowest 1080p 144hz freesync is £214 compared to nvidia £400...
little bit off topic there but food for thought
