I just built my first ever rig last week, so far everything seems a-ok.

Spec is:
E6300 Allendale 1.86
DS4
2 gig pc6400 Geil Ultra
Arctic freezer 7 pro
M12 500w seasonic
Wavemaster case

I want to start overclocking pretty soon so i've been testing the system for errors and heat.

I left Orthos running for most of yesterday and today, doing both the CPU and prime tests. Both ran for a fair few hours and bringing back 0 errors accross the board.

My core temp is 44C at idle, taken from Core Temp. Does this not seem a bit high?

The temps from speedfan are slightly different:
Temp1 40C
Temp2 38C
HD0 31C

The only fans i have running are the 2 front case fans and the rear case fan... and of course the arctic freezer 7. The case fans are the stock wavemaster ones.

Should i be running more fans? better cooling?

As i say i'd like to be overclocking soon so i really want to get the temps sorted before i start.
Am i ok with these temps?

Thanks for any help

That temp does not seem to bad, I use (TAT) Intel Thermal analysis tool and my temps at idle are 37 and 38. I use tat because it has workload level test for each core, and I use easytune to clock the cpu, then test with tat just to see how the system reacts. Then you can check the temps quickly under load and see how the temps rise.

Ok i downloaded TAT and installed.

At idle:
CPU0 - 44C
CPU1 - 43C

At Workload Level 100%:
CPU0 - 57C
CPU1 - 56C

Just to point out, i haven't touched a thing in the bios yet. Fan settings, overclocking etc is all still at stock settings.
Anything i could try to improve the cooling in the bios?

I've searched on OcUK and seen temps as low as 26C from rigs very similar to mine, using the freezer 7 pro.......thats quite a difference!

I think you will find that core temp and intel tat take the temps from the same place! And I think that intel would know how to read temps from there own devices!

Malccy: I have Coretemp, the readings are in my initial post.

Yeah i quite like TAT actually, i like the fact i can stress out the cpu by hitting one button... works well.

Thing is, i've been reading about the Wavemaster case and how it has poor cooling abilities, and how the stock fans aint up to much really.

I bought 2x 120mm Zalman fans to put in the case but of course there is nowhere to put them whatsoever. The only place i can see to put one would be behind the unused tray slots. But then would that mess up the flow of the case?

Actually i'm tempted to shell out another 15 quid or so, pick up 4x 80mm fans, replace the stock Coolermaster ones and add the top vent fan in too.
