Lo folks, not posted here in some time - not really since my last upgrade close to 3 years ago. The PC is finally being retired (AMD X2 4800+) and replaced with something new. This is what I've gathered up for it (last of the parts on their way) and as I'm not up to speed with hardware at the moment, just wanted to get the opinion of someone that is.

Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz
Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X58
Corsair 6GB DDR3 XMS3 DDR3 1333MHz
BFG GeForce GTX 295 1792MB GDDR3
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Champion Series 7.1
LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray Reader & HD-DVD ROM Serial ATA Drive
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Corsair HX 1000W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Coolermaster Stacker 830
Windows Vista Ultimate 64
Microsoft Sidewinder X6 Keyboard
Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse

Might salvage my old 160GB WD drive and use it for the OS, but not decided yet. Also torn between 2 of the Samsung monitors as I figure I may as well go the whole 9 yards and do everything, but that's a question for the monitor forum. So currently the only original bit that'll be left is the case.

I think I might have gone a bit overkill this time around, but my upgrades are so infrequent anyway. Just a question of getting it put together now as there's a lot going on recently and I doubt I'll have time this week.

Have you considered the cheaper gigabyte boards [ud3/ud4], they have recieved good reviews. Some don't have the crossfire/sli support so it depends whether you are considering this in the future, perhaps not with a 295!

Do you need the Deluxe P6T? or could you save a few £ and just get the base one.

Also with the sound card, personally i always recommend the Asus Xonar's over the creatives as i think they are the superior cards, especaiily if your using vista, as the drivers for the creatives are not the best...

Finally, have you tried the Sidewinder mouse and keyboard before? I've used the mouse and my God i thought it was awful, I always try stick with razer. But then that it personnal preference!

Good Luck with the build

I have, aye - the Sidewinder Mouse as standard is a tad light for my tastes but after adding 20G with the weights it comes with, it was perfect. It's the best mouse I've ever used.

The X6, I like the design of it, the backlighting is adjustable, has plenty of macro/media key programming options and you can detach the numberpad if you're left handed and plug it into the other side. The only real quibble I have with it is that it's got no legs so it sits flat on the desk.
