hey guys, just built my first almost-new rig the other day (opty 146, epox 9npa+, x1800xl, 2*512mb twinmos bh.5 3500, hyper 580W psu)

As soon as i got it (i know i shouldn't) but i whacked the fsb to 280mhz (1.55vcore running the ram on a 166 divider at 2-2-2-7 with 3.2v). It worked perfectly fine, prime95 stable for 8hrs+. (cpu at 43 degrees)

I ran super pi and got 1mb - 29s and 2mb - 1m 7s. Are these good scores?

I don't know where to go from here though. I tried booting at 3ghz (with divider now on 133 and very slack timmings) and I got into windows. Prime95 failed pretty quickly though and superpi wouldn't finish.

I want to try increasing the vcore but don't know what my limits should be. I'm not really intrested in benching, just want the get the highest clocks i can get my pc to for 24hr everyday safe stable use.

Thanks for any help.

P.S. can harddrives cause stability issues? And yeah i dont recomend the epox to anyone looking for an overclocking 939 board.
-The chipset cooler is very loud.
-Installing a gt or xl will render one of the p-ata slots inaccesible.
-The cmos jumper and battery are also directly below the pci-express slot so the jumper cant be reset without taking the gfx card out first.
-The motherboard undervolts the cpu when under load. ie set to 1.55 in bios but when running prime95 it undervollts to about 1.49?!?!

Sorry for the long post. Any help appreciated

that overclock looks good and the super pi times are spot on, all you can do is work the overclock up slowly. I'd stick to around 1.6v - 1.65v on air depending on temps, maybe further on water

As far as the epox is concerned i think its a fantastic board not many cheaper boards let you get over 320+ fsb, you just have to adjust the vcore as it does dip under load.

I do agree tho the layout is abit pap :p

thanks man....Do you know how to test just the ram for stability? I would try memtest buy thanks to the epox's brilliant layout i can't fit a floppy :(

Edit: now at 3ghz :) 1.59vcore and 45 degrees load. Had to put mem on a 133 divider though. Well at least i know what my opty is capable of. Currently priming (25mins and counting) :)

p4radox why wouldn't you go above 1.55 on air? Is 45 degrees load ok?

tis very good. people don't like high voltages on air as more volts = more heat which can push air cooling to its limits.

i'm having a few probs with my epox 9np+ ultra and opty 146.

So far I have got:

270fsb x 10 - 2.7GHz
1.53v under load
HT multiplier 4 - 1080mhz

only thing is that i've had to put memory on a 133 divider so its only running at 180Mhz  I have all of the memory options on auto as basically i dont understand it. I have set it to 1T though.

If I try and increase fsb anymore, increase vcore or change to 166 divider then it just beeps at me and wont boot.

Can anyone suggest any tweeks I can do on the memory to make it run on a 166 divider? Its 2gb Geil value

drop the ht multi to x3, leave the mem divider on 133 for now, to push the cpu further.

the memory would run at 224mhz on a 166 divider, dont think the 2gig geil will do that, might be wrong tho.

one thing you could try is, leaving the mem on 133, dropping the cpu multi to 9 and push the fsb (and thus the memory) up. I run my 146 at 300 x 9 = 2700mhz, and using the 133 divider gives me 192mhz on the memory ( ih8 value ram :p )

Thats quite smart actually....didn't think of that. I'm guessing i would get better performance if i droped my multi to 9 and whacked the fsb up? My cpu is doin 3ghz but the ram is only at 200. I know it can do 233 at 2-2-2-5.

Ok, Complete (NooB) question here, but bear with me. When selecting mem divider how are you guys calculating what the FSB will be? I've tried numerous ways of doing it and can't arrive at the same figures you do.

Right I have tried to get to 300 x 9 - 2700Mhz but am failing misserably; the most I can get is 280x 9 - 2520Mhz. It is stable on 270 x 10 but then my RAM is on a 133 divider so is only running at 180Mhz.

Please could you look at my bios images and suggest some tweaks to the memory timings etc as I currently have it all set on Auto.

My system is Epox 9np+ ultra, opty 146 and 2gig GeIL value.

Thanks

p.s to get try to get the 300x9 I moved the Ht multi from 4 to 3.

try upping the dimm voltage to 2.7/2.8, the HT from 4 to 3 is fine, u have to keep the value of HTxFSB below 1000 (ie dont use 300x 4=1200 use 300x3 =900).

also, try the 1t/2t timings at 2t.

Sorry, been away for a while. As far as i remember the fsb is independent of the ram (i'm a semi-noob as well so don't quote me on this) I've got the same epox / 146 combo. The cpu speed is = multi * cpu frequency (thats what i'ts called on the epox). Now cpu frequency = ram frequency. On a 166 divider, the cpu runs at 300mhz and the ram 250mhz (6/5). On a 133, when the cpu is at 300, the mem runs at 200mhz (3/2). I think thats about all i kno......
