Hi guys,

I used to be a member on here many years ago, since then due to work and other hobbies I put my love of computers to the side, well im back, ordered a new rig, and I am looking for some help on overclocking. I understand the basics, but as I have been out of the loop for so long im not sure what to expect from it!

I have ordered the following:

X6 1055T
Asus M4A89GTD Pro USB3
4gb Corsair DDR3 1600mhz DHX CL9
AC Freezer Xtreme Rev. 2
HD 5850 1gb
Creative X-Fi Xtream Gamer
Antec 300 Case
700w OCZ psu

What would you guys expect I should get the ram timings to and the X6?

Im hoping for at least 3.8ghz on air, 4gz would be great, but I think I might be expecting too much!

Would it be worth adding some more case fans, I know the 300 got good reviews, but I dont know what the insides of this case are like airflow wise?

Any help if greatly appreciated guys.

Nice stuff you ordered there, not sure about the sound card but that's personal preference.

You can get that to 4GHz, but I will leave that to people who have actually done it.

5870 is an extra £100, I should be able to clock the 5850 to 5870 speeds pretty easily. Plus once the 5850 starts to struggle I can pop in another one in xfire and o/d that to 5870 as well.

That was my thinking anyhow, I might be miles off the mark mind.

could do, or your could drop the sound card get a 5870 and overclock that, then when that struggles get another 5870 for crossfire and overclock that...

I know the 1090T hits 4.2GHz on good air cooling, so your target of 3.8Ghz seems quite achievable

TBH I would be happy with 3.8ghz, but might "try" for 4ghz.

Sound card wise I picked it up second hand off ebay for £20, so that would still be an extra £80 or so. I didnt plan on buying one, but thought I would put a cheeky little bid in and won!

Just to add, would anyone advise putting another fan in the case to bring air in at the front and one on the side to pull air out?

If so could you point me in the way of a couple of quiet fans? ideally with blue/red tint.
