Hi All,

Time for a new rig I think and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the following, consider that I want to overclock and move to DDR3, also I am still undecided on what GFX card so not to worry about that for now:

Mobo:

Asus P5Q3 Deluxe @ Wifi-N Intel P45

CPU:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-192-IN

RAM:

OCZ 2GB DDR3 PC3-14400C8 1800MHz Platinum (2x1GB)

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Cheers,
Krib.

The P5Q3 Deluxe was having horrible issues with memory a few weeks ago. Not sure if it's been fixed.

lol all looking pretty good so far then.

Thanks for the answers guys, but with regard to DDR3, if im buying a new mobo and the price is right I see no reason not to.

Thanks again.

fair play, just trying to make the point that unless you get a good price for ddr3, you're not likely to see enough performance improvement to make it worth while paying current prices.

Yea I see what your saying now, the extra performance gained doesnt warrant the higher price tag.

Thanks again for your help/advice :).

I would go for an Asus board. If you decide to stick with DDR3 then the Maximus Extreme, otherwise i would go for DDR2 on a P5E. With ATI having seemingly 'won' this gen of GPU's, these boards give the option of crossfire. Giving good 'bang for buck' upgrade possibilities.

Ok dude, thanks for your advice.

If your current setup is the one in your sig I wouldnt upgrade just yet tbh,
you're not likely to see that huge of an improvement from e6600 @ 3.33 to lets say 3.8 E8400.

Well ofcourse there an increase in performance, but your current rig has still plenty of life yet, the 8800GTX plays all games up to date fine as well.

I would just get an extra 2gb of ram for now and wait yet a bit, E8600 is coming out soon and the Super RV770 ( OCed 4870 with 2gb memory ! ) isnt far as well.

Just buy another 2gb ram and you will see huge improvement.

But then if you're really after an upgrade and game at 1920x1200 or higher resolution and got nothing to do with money then I would go with this setup:

Decent X38/X48 motherboard
E8400
4gb of good PC8500 GeiL or Gskill ( personally aint been happy with OCZ and Corsairs recently ...)
And 4850 x2 in crossfire, or 4870x2 if you got 30" monitor ;).

+TRUE or Tuniq and tube of MX-2 (great stuff, beats AS5) if you aint have it yet
