Wow it's been a while since I was here. It hasn’t changed much at all in years :)

Finally after much time my machine has died. Having built it in 2004 I think it had a good innings and gave up the ghost during my flat move. The Mobo, PSU and Graphics seem to have gone.

So now, upgrade time!

I think I might keep the old Cooler Mater 201 'Black Widow' for now. The only problem I have with it is the teeny 80mm case fans. Any suggestions on improved yet cheap alternative would be welcome!

A couple of HDD's I already have as well as the perif's. I just need the core system rebuilt, something that will last a reasonable time with scope for upgrades in future. So far I've come up with this:

  • Krypton Z68 600i Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.60GHz Overclocked Bundle + 8gb RAM option
  • MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
  • OCZ ZS Series 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
  • Samsung SH-S222AB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Total : £859.03

Having not been in the game for a long long time I am not up to date with the preferred HW options. However, I've seen good reports on the Geforce 560 and the bundle OC'd is fine enough i guess? I don’t feel like tweaking motherboard settings to the hilt for stability so I thought a pre-tested system would be ideal. I remember the pains I had with my Athlon and K8T Neo in the past with the memory!

So, i know nothing of the motherboard on the above so I don’t know how it fairs against the plethora of options. The SSD I reckon would be a nice system drive and a 5min search lead me to the Crucial M4 i see recommended over the forums.

PSU however, I have no idea. The above system and a an extra HDD or so. What wattage would be required for that? I just plucked a random PSU from the list so I have no idea if thats optimal?

Any input would be great. I'm not looking to spend huge amounts of money so any savings suggestions are welcome. Not going to be used massively for games but I wouldn’t mind the power if i do decide to play a little at 1600*1200.

opinions, suggestions, experiences?

Thanks for the feedback.
Are Radeons really comparable/better to the 560Ti 2Gb?

I’m not too worried about +/-£50, when the difference in in £100's then i will worry....so do you think the Overclockers bundle is ok or would it be wise to choose the individual components as you’ve done? [while I have no doubt the OCkrs bundle is adequate, is it the best bang for buck without the need to tweak myself or is a week of research needed on the forums for the optimal solution?]. I guess the performance differences won’t be huge.

Are the days of memory/mobo combinations on the higher ends now gone i.e. are there still issues with some memory/mobo brand combinations of years ago? I'm not sure I have the will to pick through all forums to find the optimal solution or whether just to get the overclockers provided bundle of combination choice.

I would only ever want 1 graphics card so i presume i can go with the lower wattage an MP suggests.
