Hi guys,

No idea what happened to my old account so my 'first' post is the usual question, feel free to point out any flaws in this upgrade spec:

CPU: Core 2 Due E6600
Mobo: Asus P5B Deluxe
RAM: Corsair 2GB PC6400-C4 Dominator
Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500
Graphics: BFG 8800GTS OC 320MB
HD: WD Raptor 150GB
PSU: Corsair HX 520W
Case: Antec P180
Optical: Samsung DVDRW

I'm looking to keep it under a grand but to have the best (games) performance within that limit.

The RAM is rather fancy but I'm thinking it'll help the overclocking effort (3GHz+).

The cooler I'm not sure about. I'm a little concerned about some of the coolers I've seen being too heavy. The motherboard isnt designed to carry huge amounts of weight in that area right? Or have things been improved since I last built a PC?...

I've looked at the 620W PSU but I'm not sure. There will be the above kit plus one more internal HD, three or so fans and not much else running off the PSU. I've used that website that calculates the power requirements and it always comes out between 300 and 400W. 520W is surely plenty? :)

Thanks for any help

Thanks for the quick reply!

Geil RAM is most definitely on my short list. Any idea if the dominator is more likely to help get better speeds out of the CPU though? Or is it just you're a fan of Geil! :)

Tuniq tower eh? Ok, I'll assume, as there arent lots of posts about these BEASTS breaking motherboards, that they dont. Thanks.

The GeiL and Corsair are essentially the same apart from the price premium for that next-to-needless heatsink.

Cooler-wise, the Scythe Ninja and Tuniq Tower are generally the most popular, though a few bad stories about the Ninja have been heard. Both generally great, though.

If you want to overclock your RAM then go for something with Micron chips, if not then something like the Geil (or other cheap PC6400) will do fine.

I agree with Masslac's suggestions.

I agree too, RAM, cooler and HDD should be altered. For the RAM I would choose OCZ/GeIL C4 PC6400, for the cooler I would go for the Noctua NH-U12F and for the HDD either Samsung Spinpoint or Seagate Barracuda :)

Cheers guys,

I reckon the Geil and Noctua are my best bet. Now, if only someone could get some BFG in stock I could order! :)
