Howdy. I've just invested in a new rig and I'm having a few teething problems in the shape of random reboots. My system is as follows:

*Asus P5KC MB
*Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300
*Asus Triton 70 CPU Cooler (+ Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound)
*PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 "Special Edition" 1024MB GDDR3
*OCZ 2GB DDR3 PC3-10666C7 1333MHz Platinum
*OCZ StealthXStream 600w PSU
*Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA-II
*Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7200S 20x DVD±RW SATA
*Windows XP Home

Now, I'm pretty sure heat's not the problem as both my CPU (with RealTemp) and GPU are idling in the low to mid 40's, which leads me to believe it could be a power issue. Is the 600w PSU up to the job?.. The brick-like 3870 must suck up a lot of juice.

Also, a second mini-question: My 3870 shows up in RivaTuner, Dxdiag and the Catalyst suite as having only 512mb, though I'm told this is fine and just due the the dual core setup. That right?

Thanks guys.

what drivers have you got on the gfx card ?

psu should be fine, run memtest over the memory see if its ok.

all the mobo power connectors attached ok ?

That was quick :)

I have the latest catalyst drivers (8.5 I think) and all connectors have been checked and double checked. I'll try memtest shortly when I get home

noticed its a ddr2/3 board, sorry to ask such an obvious question but are the ddr3 sticks in the right slots and seated ok ?

also make sure the bios has the memory voltage set to the correct level, set the memory timings manually in bios and check what speed the memory is set to run at being as its PC3-10666.

Hehe... Yeah it's in the right slots. However, just ran Memtest and it found this error:

Memory Error Detected:

Copying between 4689a0b and 46898a6 did not result in and accuarte copy.

Memetest has detected that your computer cannot accurately store data in RAM. You need to fix this.

Had to run two Memtests at the same time as windows wouldn't allow it to test the whole lot at once.

Just checked the sticks individually. I've checked the voltage, FSB and timings and they're alright, 1.8, 1333, 7-7-7-20 respectively. Appears that the second stick is up *hit creek. Replacement time methinks. Thanks for the help. Hopefully everything should be peachy from now on.

There have been loads of problems with the Asus P5KC reported. Asus's forums are full of complaints and people having problems.

600W should be more than enough for your rig.
