Well I've got it all done now, my new rig is all put together with all my software on :D Took a while to post the pictures etc because I never got around to it.

So for those that helped me, especially masslac, mishima and melbourne720 heres how it turned out.

My new rig is as follow (don't think I've missing anything);

Intel Core 2 Duo 6600
Asus P5B Deluxe
4GB GeIL PC2-6400 Memory
Noctua NH-U12F CPU Cooler
QPAD XT-R Gaming Surface Mouse Mat
150gb Western Digital Raptor
500gb Western Digital Caviar
Dell 24" Widescreen TFT
Akasa Eclipse Case
Enermax Liberty 500w PSU
Creative X-Fi Soundcard
DVD-R/W & Floppy
Microsoft Laser Wireless Keyboard & Mouse
Radeon X1900 XT 512MB Graphics card
Logitech Z-10 Speakers

Picture 4

Apologies for some of the pictures being a bit blurry and the insides of my pc being a tad dusty. Shows how long I've been using my new build for since building it.

Roll on the R600's :D  LOL

Thanks! Nice to hear peoples views and comments.

As for the Noctua, I can only say positive comments, its very quiet, was easy to install once you figure out how, and gives good cooling performance, I can firmly recommend it

Good to hear you are up and running and from the pictures you have a very nice setup there, looks superb - great stuff. Thanks for posting and letting us know how you got on, also very pleased to hear the Noctua has impressed you and is working well. Any plans to overclock? What temps are you reporting? :)

i am really thinking about overclocking, not excessive but just knock it up a bit closer to 3ghz. just not sure what settings i really need to change in the bios

First thing you shoudl do is backup your current system, its important to do this because overclocking can damage your windows install if you overdo it. Its always best to cover yourself when you do things that can be risk your existing system install.

I did begin to write up a little guide for you then realised we have different motherboards so the BIOS would be different lol, anyway I found something on the internet for you: Asus P5B Deluxe Overclocking guide. Very similar to mine, just need to disable certain CPU features and then nudge up the FSB to 333MHz to reach 3GHz. I would do it in increments first though and do small Orthos tests at each overclock.

nice looking rig, all looks nice and clean, the Dell 24" widescreen looks good I wish I'd saved my pennies and gone for the 24" instead of my 20.1" maybe in a few months.

Got it in one.....I'm waiting to see how the R600's fair. :D Gives me a month or so to get some pennies together.

With regards to the monitor got myself a bit of a bargain on a brand new from a certain auction site :D

Many thanks, I'll have a read of the guide. Does all the setting he specifies seem the right settings to use?
Sorry to sound dumb, but what actually is Orthos?

Its dual core prime95 (runs a copy on each core).

Thanks, I'll downloaded it and have a look at the guide. As I'm a compete newbie when it comes to overclocking what that guide says is there "over my head" does it all sound ok?

Looks like a good guide to me, very helpful with the screenshots and captions. Just have a read over them and familiarise yourself with the BIOS a little without altering anything. If you do make a mistake you can always clear CMOS which will return settings to default. Trust me I didn't know what Orthos was a few months ago, overclocking is a new thing for me!

ok so sorry for sounding so dumb, and thanks for your help so far mishima, so if i follow the guide and put the settings it specifies as a starting place, do i just boot back into windows and run Orthos? Which test do i run...is it the blend test that tests cpu and memory? and how long do i run it for?

Yup boot back to windows and use blend. Do an hour for a rough guide to stability and upto 12hrs when you feel you're near where you're going to run 24/7.
