Hey guys

Been out of the game a long time and decided to build myself a new overclocked rig which i took delivery of today, thanks to OCUK :)

So now that I've the rig I need to know what software do I need to download now?

My GPU is a R9 290x Lightning and my O/S Windows 8.1

Thanks!

Windows updates and latest drivers (as suggested earlier)

Antivirus/Malwarebytes/Ccleaner

Chrome/Firefox with adblock pro

Thunderbird or other email client

Winamp

Steam/Origin/uplay

www.ninite.com is an amazing start to get your basics with a 1 click installer. I use it on every new PC/format just choose what you want you get a small installer which installs all programs you choose with no user input needed and no adware or anything.

I keep my install very minimal..

7-zip for extracing/creating archives
Steam
Winamp lite (for playing music)
Chrome with ublock
MPC-BE (for playing videos)
Notepad2
Paint.net

That will do...
What is the machine for, gaming?

Yeh the machine is for gaming.....

and well the masters degree im starting but yeh mainly gaming :P

The main types of programs i was looking for was for keeping track of my system temps, performance etc so the ones suggested will do perfectly

And thanks again all!

i prefer open hardware monitor to HW monitor you get a sweet desktop widget with it, that and CPUz and GPUz are all I need

That is a fantastic shout! Why have I not heard of this? Beats my memory stick with its "softwares" folder getting out of data all the time! Nice one! :D

+1 for f.lux. Can't live without it
