hello i just bought a new rig, which includes geil6400c4, gigabyte ds4, conroe 6400, corsiar 620w psu.
the problem is i just put it all together and when i press the power button it dusnt boot up it just like cycles through a kind of fan spin, i dont know whats causing this, it dosnt even get to the post. i read in an other forum that this has happened a lot and that the solution is basically to get another one becuase the board is faulty, is this true?

Have you connected the P4 power connector to the motherboard? this would give you the results that you are currently getting.

yes i connected all the power connections to the mother board, the big large one and the one for the cpu and the one for the pcie

you might want to make sure you have power going from the psu through to your hd on its own cable. Sorry if you've done this, but I got caught out by cabling issues on a recent build - still hurts ;)

the more i read that previous link ther more im convinced that the mobo is ******, oh dear, my first ever rig and it goes pear shaped :(

i just found sum dusty old ram in an old computer, and stuck that inplace of the geil, and it has booted up. why is this now working with different ram? if i load up everythign using the old ram, then put the geil back in will this work or is the mobo ******?

Go into the bios with the old ram. Set the memory voltage to 2.1v (+0.300v). Then save and shutdown. Fit the new ram and try again.

what guy above sais. there have been probs before were quality ram required higher voltage then what is supplied as default. this caused an issue on some baords. were when you press power button the motherboard dint supply enough power to start the memory, soo cause ram dont start it shuts down thinking there is a prob. solution is what guy sais above.

ok thanks guys ill give that a try and let yous know :D but will my board and everything be fine after this? also will my crappy ram not melt with +3v?

NOT +3v but +0.300v

You set the memory to run at an extra nought point three volts. This will run the memory at it's rated voltage of 2.1v.

well if that solves it then should be fine, the ram shouldnt melt it may not liek the extra volts but you basically only want to get into the bios and save the settings then come out and turn ya pc off. and put other memory back.

this isnt a garantee fix but its deffinatly a known problem worth trying.

oh dear, from bad to worse, i waited until the hard drive was formatted then it loaded windows xp on, it then got to a stage where it said it had to reboot to continue so it did so but when rebooting it came up to the loading screen and it said there was an error reading disc, and the only option there is to press ctrl alt dlt, but if u do that then it reboots and continually comes up with the same message. ahhhhhh :( so i dont want to even try the geil ram if i cant get this to work.

Did you supply the Windows install with drivers for your SATA ?
Is this just a case of no drivers for the SATA controller that the hard drive is conected too ?

Read the section in the motherboard manual about creating and using SATA controller drivers when installing Windows.

okay dokay, it seems to be loading fine, but its gonna take 34mins :( doh

ps i loaded the gigabyte disc that comes with the mobo and i think it installed the drivers for sata.

you mean to say that you put a pc together and once it booted you did not go straight into a memtest?

this is why everyday people should not be building pc's.
