Specs:

E6600 - Ninja'd
DS4
XMS2 2gb 6400 c4
c3d x1900xt
Liberty 500w
Barracuda 320gb

Here's what happens:

All connections in place, turn pc on, no beeps power lights come on and fans spin for about 3-4 secs then shuts down. CPU fan is struggling to spin and just about gets started when it shuts down and restarts.

Any ideas?...... Only thing I can think of is CPU fan is knackered!

Okay things to try:

1.) Clear CMOS

2.) IIRC that board has no clear CMOS jumper but if it does, check it is not in the 'clear' position

3.) Try connecting the CPU fan to a different header then plug a case fan into the CPU fan header and see if it starts

4.) Try running with just mainboard, CPU, RAM and PSU

5.) If that fails, try running the above outside of the case

:)

1.) Clear CMOS - Trying that now, no jumper switch. You have to remove battery for 15mins with this mobo.

2.) IIRC that board has no clear CMOS jumper but if it does, check it is not in the 'clear' position - No it's not

3.) Try connecting the CPU fan to a different header then plug a case fan into the CPU fan header and see if it starts - Tried CPU fan & another fan on both mobo headers.... Both do the same, move slightly when turned on then start to spin properly after about 3-4secs?.... Is this normal?

Another question.... Conroe chip has no pins, just contact points. Mobo socket has pins that then contact the cpu.... Doesn't seem as sure as the pinned chps as it seems to move around a bit before being clamped?

Sounds like Bios to me.

Right, the guy I was helping yesterday has the same motherboard as you and his CPU fan slot caused the fan to delay before startup so in the end he put it in a different header and it's been fine. That could therefore mean that there is either a dodgey batch of DS4's about or it's supposed to do it

Just try it with one stick of RAM, the motherboard, PSU and CPU and see what happens :)

Right, here's what i've tried so far....

Reset CMOS...

Different fans on cpu fan header, both start with delay... Used both of these fans in the system fan header & again both start with a delay. Tried to start with no fan...Made no difference!

Tried both banks of ram, individually... No difference.

No unplugged everything except CPU, Ram, Mobo, GPU, HDD.... Still nothing.

Cables connected: Main cable & Extra 4 pin that goes next to it, 4 pin PCI-E optional connector to mobo, PCI-E red 4 pin to gpu, 2 x 4pin to cpu power socket.

HEEEEEEEEELLLPP! MEEEEEE!

Right, clearly you're not listening so I'll say it again:

Didn't think that would make any difference....

Just tried it, CPU & HS, PSU, 1 stick ram, mobo.... 2nd restart it stayed on but all other 10 attempts it did the same thing, just constant re-starts

Right, your problem sounds very similar to one I had with a celeron D CPU ages ago which in the end was fixed with a BIOS update. This time, stick the GPU back in and keep trying to restart it until you can get into BIOS which hoperfully you will be able to do and see which BIOS version you are running :)

Can't get that far.... 3-4 secs isn't enough to get to bios!!!!!

This may be stupid (not as techno as some of you guys :)) but could it be the PSU?

I was told 500W for my system wouldn't be enough and I've only got a X1800Xt compared to your x1900Xt.

The computer takes a good humph of power when it boots up so I imagine this could be a problem.

Then you were told a complete load of crap!

You aint gonna get much help with that attitude.

I remember having this prob yonks ago. I'll try and remember what I did. Probably just rebuilt the system.

Sorry guys, just gettin annoyed..... Especially with all the people who claim that you need 900w psu's etc to run a PC.

This is all you need:
380w single gfx card
450w Dual gfx cards

I've now just about tried everything, I didn't rush the build in the first place as most of it new tech to me, ATX2.0 Modular PSU's etc.....

Oh BTW take a look at this thread, looks like 1/2 the people who've bought the Gigatripe boards are having the same problem, right the way through the range, DS3, DS4 & DQ6.....: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17606614
