new rig wont post HELP

ok just built up my new(to me )rig

spec is

asrock dual sata2
opteron 146
1 gig ram (2x512)
ti4200 agp card
usual drives etc

fires up usual single beep then no output graphics.

pulled the mobo out and swapped with my xp setup system boots fine

any gen guys or tips on what to try first???

check memory is in, correctly!

Check GFX is seated properly as well. Try another board incase current one is faulty.

tried with both sticks ans then again with just a single stick

get a standard beep then nothing not even an output to monitor

Okay, try bare min then.

Just hook up these:

Ram,
GFX,
CPU.

See if it will POST then.

your board should be using an ami bios ,1 short beep at boot is dram refresh failure, check in the bios that cpu/ram are not out of sync ,timing etc need to be checked aswell ,also a dead cmos battery can give a one beep code.

and the rams fine in my other board

someone on here who has used an opteron should be able to tell use the tmings and ram speed x multi for that chip , ive never used one myself.

what rating is the ram (speed) and the chip supp to be, some ram/chips dont like running out of sync i.e 166 for ram 133 for chip.

*in your bios there should be a setting for the bus speed of the ram/cpu ,make sure the ratio is set to 1/1
