Hey,
I currently have an Asus P5ND2-Sli Deluxe Motherbaord and a Single core Intel 3.40 Ghz processor. I am looking to upgrade this rig. Can anyone give me any advice and will a dual core processor allow me greater speeds than at present? Any advice please - Also I prefer Asus motherboards.

Thanks

Neil

Not really. There are still some places selling the 3.6ghz dual core processors, but most are selling the 945, which is 3.4ghz dual core. to be honest, youll get no improvement with this upgrade in single core apps. You see an improvement in multitasking and dual core apps though.

Unfortunately, this board does not take a core 2 Duo either.

On my current system I have 1Gb of Ram. If I kept the existing motherboard and processor and upgraded the RAM to 2gb would it run Vista Home Premium at a good speed and be ok?

Thanks

It will run fine with 1gb, but 2gb is preferred if you want to game.

My Media Centre is running Vista Ultimate, and its a p4 3.2ghz, 512gb RAM and onboard 915 chipset graphics and it runs absoutely fine mate. Aero doesnt work, but I'm not fussed about that really...

So,
If that system is running it efficiently then my system should more than be up to the job. I'll just upgrade the RAM onboard to 2Gb i think

I have an Asus ATI Radeon AX700 Pro 256Mb. I tried RC1 on a spare drive in this machine and the Aero Interface was enabled and was functioning.

Cool. Like I say, Aero for me isnt a necessity, but a nice to have. The RAM upgrade will be perfect. Your rig will run Vista fine mate.
