Hey there, as this is my 1st post (of many) i feel a little guilty asking for sum advice already. I'm sorry!

The basic outline is, my current rig's psu blew and has taken the best part of me rig with it... thankfully i thought my psu was playing up so i swapped out my 9800gtx for an old 6800gt which i had in a box under me desk. So i still have my 9800gtx in good working order.

i need to a new rig now tho, and as im a student i havent really got "that" much to spend on a new system. my budget is around £800. ive also been looking at going ddr3 because its future proof "theoretically". but the prices of DDR2 cant be ingored.

ive been looking at vista aswell and im not sure if i will need to get a 64bit o/s. i do a fair bit of gaming, playing cod4, cyrisis etc but i also use programs like photoshop aswell as qbase for audio editing.

inital thoughts of rigs are something like:

- q6600
- 4gb RAM (ddr2/ddr3) - dont really want a mobo that does both
- 9800gtx
- artic freezer 7 pro

TIA cheers

Is there anything else you need, or even save from your last PC?

I wouldn't go with DDR3 just now, no real benefits and costs too much. I'd also leave the boards that allow both, just stick with a P45 board and DDR2.

I'd definitely go with 64bit Vista, it will allow you to use the full 4gb of memory.

I've spec'd a dual core, it's great for gaming and overclocks really well. I don't know how much photoshop you do or how heavy you use it, if the rig is mainly for this then you can always swap the CPU for a Q6600.

£800 is a decent amount, you can always add to my spec, better case, blu-ray drive, a bigger monitor...

I'm sorry!
