New rig?

Been with the same setup for about 4 years now:

cpu: AMD Phenom II x4 840
gpu: Radeon HD6850 1gb
mobo: random crap
RAM: 4GB of random crap

All within some crap case.

Really excited for something new but I'm just wondering, would it be worth it to upgrade this setup, buy a new rig now or should I wait a while and get better value for money?

Mainly concerned with gaming.

Get rid of the "random crap" and invest in a new system. Sell of what you can and recuperate some money.
Depends how long you mean when you say "should I wait a while". There is no guarantee as to whether you will get better value today or in a couple of weeks or months. Just have to hope that when you do decide to buy, that there are some good deals available on the components you require.

Not much worth saving in that list.

If you can wait Intel's new platform will be out sometime next year (Q1?).

Provide a target budget and someone will probably suggest something for you.
