New Rig?

Well it's been over 4 years since I ordered this :

"Titan Goliath" Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz @ 3.60GHz Quad Core DDR3 System
HIS ATI Radeon HD 5850 iCooler V 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

and lately the old girl is starting to slow down / freeze / fans constantly on loud trying to keep cool.

Can I ask, how dated this system is now? Would I benefit a lot by upgrading / getting a new rig?

Any recommendations? Budget is flexible, I mainly play BF4 and Eve Online (2 clients).

Guessing this is a gaming machine.

If so the CPU is still ok - just

I'd get a faster GPU as the 5850 really isn't quick enough for today's games at high settings. Something like a GTX970, GTX780 or AMD R9 280 would be a very big improvement.

8gb of RAM and a SSD would really help speed the system up.

You can't ask for system valuations outside of the 'Members Market' sub-forum which you won't have access to yet as you don't have enough posts

The CPU in that is still pretty decent, as CPU's go but if you can afford a new CPU, motherboard/ RAM it would be a good investment.

The GPU is very dated now. Even a £150 R9 280 would be a fairly sizeable upgrade.

What type of monitor do you have? 1080p/1440p?

Give us a ballpark for the cost £800? £1500? £2000?

Will you need it prebuilt?

Are you going to use your current case/PSU? If so what are they?

Sorry for all the questions.

No, thanks for the replies!

It's an Antec case. Not sure what else I can tell you about that!

Certainly don't want to spend more than £1k. I've got 2 monitors, an Acer and LG, no idea if they are 1080 / 1440, had them a while!

Is there a quick way to find out what PSU / Mobo etc I have so you can best tell me to upgrade my existing or get a new unit?

This has to be done the Members Market which 1000 posts is require to access and 6 months.

I'm not allowed to get an idea of how much my computer is worth unless I have posted a thousand times on this forum?

Is that genuine?

Possibly the most ridiculous / needless "rule" I've ever heard...

Just my opinion of course!

PS out of curiosity what is the reason behind this?

It isn't hard - it's a rule here that those who pay for the forums expect us to adhere to.

We'd get inundated with price checks before the rule - having it makes for a better forum experience.

You aren't the first new poster who has posted a price check and you won't be the last.

It's a rule here. Adhere to it if you want to keep your posting privileges. It really is that simple :)

Just delete this entire thread, I'll go and ask / shop somewhere else

So you're going to stamp your feet and go elsewhere then, despite us actually helping you? We aren't affiliated with the shop, we're just a bunch of enthusiasts who help each other.

Bye - you won't be missed.

just frustrating when asking easily answered questions but get faced with needless rules from forum nazis.

It just winds me up, but I appreciate any tips / advice I've been given, and no hard feelings.

Ta ta.

Its a fair rule to stop scammers. As the members market allows trusted users to buy and sell items, the price check area is there too. We cannot answer your question here as it could lead to forum members completing a trade outside of the forum. OCUK aren't going to take the risk as if one of you gets scammed you'll blame OCUK, and without them having proof of the transaction (or any contact info) they won't be able to help you.

All in all, its for your own benefit.

Hi Alz0r,

The price check rule has been nicely explained by the other posters above, so I won't cover that again, I've also edited your OP to reflect this :)

These forums are an amazing place to chat and share with like minded enthusiasts, but there are certain rules that we expect members to adhere to, especially since this forum is paid for by OCUK, and aimed at all members of the family, so please take a minute or two to read the forum rules, and I think you'll find your stay will be a much more pleasurable one.

Cheers,

Space Monkey
