New router and now experiencing lag and stutter in BF3

My dad got a new Wireless Belkin N vision router today (the flat one that stands up right with a LED line) and now I'm experiencing lag and stutter even though my ping is perfectly fine.

I have no idea about enabling ports or anything router related as my dad normally sorts this.. But any guidance on how to make the connection better will be very much appreciated.

P.s I would use a hard line but the plugs upstairs are all weird. The router is situated downstairs and my pc is upstairs but is directly above it.

Also would you recommend a USB wireless adapter or wireless PCI card??

Wired or wireless?

Are you 100% sure it's the router and not your internet connection?

Wireless, mmm i can't test it now because my pops is downloading and so is my brother and since we share the connection... i'm going to lag like crap trying to play any online games.

Disable some stuff on the router like intrusion detection, firewall, upnp which is known to cause disconnects on bf3 (on some routers) but might also cause other issues?

Overall sounds like a good going over in the settings wouldn't hurt.
