Hey guys.

I want to replace this god awful BT Home hub 2.0, problem is I cannot find out if I need the username/password off BT to put in or not.

Some say you can leave the user/pass blank, others say you have to enter it, problem is the routers I have lay around all need username and passwords so cannot use them. (even with the supposed user of BT ive read online)

And getting the username/password to connect with off BT is driving me insane, as they originally sent the details to our old address and ive never managed to get them to figure out what they are.

So after that rant, does anyone know for sure if I can just use a blank user/pw or know of the default one I can try please.

Also any recommendations on a router would be good, all I need is decent wifi and if possible IPSEC VPN.

I have a vague recollection that with BT your username was your phone number @bt.com/net or something. Is it not listed under advanced on your home hub?

Failing that, just call BT?

ill try the number @BT.com/net tomorrow, and nope I cannot find it listen anywhere on the router.

So far ive spent over 7 hours on the phone trying to find out the username/pw off them, after their original admin cockup, and us changing the phone number when we first moved here means they are bewildered and dont even seem to think we have broadband other than charging us for it along with Vision.

If you can see the details on the homehub but starred out viewing the page source will let you find it. If you can't get that far, to login for advanced seetings is user admin and passwrod serial number if I remember right.

[email protected] works - no password.

[email protected] works - with your account password (if the above fails)

Although if you have ever used a password on the line before or the new router requires a password, use your email address and password.

Just mirroring whats already been said here by the looks of it.

I thought you could use [email protected] and a blank password...ie the anything can really be anything you want...

BTW what's your issues with the home hub?

Poor wifi range, so I used an extender, but that died the other day. That and I use about 8 different VPN's, which ive got some Zyxel routers sitting about which would make life easier, as I could do it all at the router rather than with some software.

typically I never got the email/password off them either doh! I'll see about picking up a cheap router and give it a try with no password.

Yeah, can't do much about vpn problems...the homehub isn't really designed for that, they sell a business router with those capabilities....perhaps you could pick one of them up, not sure of the model number perhaps a google will shed some light on it.....
